Sound Underground

First two minutes of a documentary I directed/produced/edited profiling subway performers in Chicago.

It aired on PBS' Emmy-award winning program, Image Union

I made this documentary in collage--inspired by the subway performers who livened my daily commute from the suburbs to the city. During my travels I befriended numerous subway performers and quickly realized that their stories did not adhere to the stereotype of performers being "panhandlers, drug dealers, bums, etc." These performers' narratives broke those stereotypes in dramatic ways, so I ventured on a three-month journey to document these stories.

Everything in the documentary was filmed legitimately. After several long meetings with the CTA's board of directors, I was able to convince them to let me film this documentary for almost nothing. You can read more about my process here.
